Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Yesterday the United States Supreme Court sided with wealthy special interests funded by millionaires and billionaires to stifle the voices of working people and limit our freedom to join unions.

In the face of this anti-worker ruling, know that we are more resolved than ever to stick together and fight back against any attacks that attempt to divide our union.  America needs unions now more than ever to fix a democracy and economy that is rigged in favor of the wealthy and powerful.

We are not going anywhere- we are more energized and engaged to stand up for quality public services and no court case can change that!

The more than 3,000 members of Local 1067, the 45,000 members of Council 93, and the 1.6 million members of AFSCME across the United States will continue to fight; because all working people deserve safe working conditions, family-sustaining wages and benefits, and the necessary time to care for our loved ones. Unions are the best way for working people to create a better life for their family; and any attack on our union is an attack on working people everywhere.

We are extremely proud of the work we do on higher education campuses across the Commonwealth.  We ensure that students remain safe, aid in processing financial aid, and we keep our campuses clean and beautiful, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.   We make higher education work in Massachusetts!  Our Colleges/Universities work because we do!  We believe that all workers engaged in public service deserve fair wages; good benefits and a secure retirement; as well as a dignity, respect, and a voice on the job. It doesn’t matter whether the boss is a politician, a government bureaucrat, College/University President, or a CEO of a private company — public services matter!

The National Right to Work Foundation has already started to contact our members to let them know about the SCOTUS ruling in the Janus vs. AFSCME case. Do your research, trace the dark money, and see what Right to Work is all about.  It is THE RIGHT TO WORK FOR LESS! These people want to destroy unions so that the super wealthy don’t have to pay you higher wages and/or additional benefits. The less they have to pay you, the more money they make! Don’t be fooled by their rhetoric!

#union #strongertogether

Will you stand with us and fight as we organize, hold our elected leaders accountable, and fight back against the efforts to divide us and weaken the strength in numbers we need to sustain our families and make our communities stronger?

Yesterday, today, and tomorrow we are

Yours in Solidarity,

The Table Officers of AFSCME Local 1067
